
Dr. Andrea Austin is a leading emergency physician, simulation educator, and advocate for physician well-being. Her forthcoming book, “Revitalized: A Guidebook to Following Your Healing Heartline,” transcends her personal burnout narrative, offering physicians insights into navigating the healthcare system, emphasizing the need for emotional intelligence and innovation as essential to thriving in healthcare.
Firmly believing in the power of a well-being-oriented workforce to deliver superior care, Dr. Austin's work focuses on autonomy, belonging, and competency for healthcare providers. Her pioneering efforts advocate for simulation as a pivotal tool in healthcare education.
She is a Navy veteran, prior lieutenant commander. Her career includes a deployment to Iraq, serving at the forefront of emergency medicine at the Navy Trauma Training Center (NTTC) at LA General, and significantly impacting military medical personnel training.
Dr. Austin advocates for a supportive healthcare culture, emphasizing her commitment to physician well-being through serving as Chair of the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians and host of the Heartline: Changemaking in Healthcare podcast.
Dr. Austin became interested in coaching after experiencing the benefits during her career transition from being in the military to civilian practice. Later, she participated in a group coaching program that expanded her thinking around burnout and compassion fatigue. As she progressed in her career, she saw many healthcare professionals suffering, and she pursued her coaching certification to assist healthcare professionals in moving from surviving to thriving.
She is a Certified Physician Development Coach, granted by Physician Coaching Institute. She coaches individuals and groups. She is available for speaking engagements and consulting with organizations committed to healthcare professional well-being and seeking to create safer and more fulfilling working environments.
